Even though dentists clarify that you can combat almost all dental problems simply by brushing twice a day and flossing, most people fail to take these simple steps and end up with excruciating pain. About half of Americans suffer from gum disease (periodontal disease) at least once in their life. Fortunately, you can stop the progression and reverse the condition.

When gum disease is neglected for a long time and left untreated, it can advance and become difficult to treat. If your gum disease is still in its early stages, you may be able to reverse it by making a few small changes in your diet. Along with that, proper oral hygiene is also crucial. If you feel pain, visit an orthodontist in Fullerton, CA today.

Foods to eat if you have gum disease.

    • Seeds and nuts are high in omega-3s.

These items include pistachios, sesame seeds, macadamia nuts, etc. Omega 3s serve as an essential source of nutrients and must be included in your balanced and healthy diet. They can be highly beneficial since they are anti-inflammatory substances with a contrary relationship with gum disease.

    • Salmon and other fatty fish.

Oily and protein-rich fishes like mackerel, herring, and salmon are rich in omega 3s and serve as an excellent source of nutrients. Due to their oil content, they possess anti-inflammatory properties and contribute to your immune system greatly.

    • Chicken.

Chicken contains collagen and minerals like iron and zinc that can help you fight against various gum diseases. The skin of the chicken is highly nutritious in itself, so do not skip the skin either. People often avoid eating the skin part because of the common misconception that it contains a lot of fat. However, this is not true; do eat the skin as it is highly rich in collagen.

    • Cacao.

Cacao bean, or simply cacao, is a fully fermented seed with a high amount of disease-fighting catechins, inhibiting gum disease. Compounds found in cacao can help you combat various dental issues like tooth decay, cavities, and plaque. It contains a compound called CBH that hardens your enamel. Go for products like raw chocolate that contains 70 percent cocoa to get the most benefits.

    • Broccoli.

Broccoli is rich in vitamin C, provides tons of other nutrients like iron, calcium, magnesium, etc., and acts as an antioxidant. Since gum diseases are often associated with low vitamin C levels, your diet must contain broccoli to help overcome the issue.

If you have gum disease, visit your dentist today.
