Teledentistry – Convenient Dental Care at Your Fingertips

Telehealth tools are changing the way healthcare is provided here in California. These online healthcare services kept connecting patients and doctors even after they really took off during the coronavirus crisis. This is also true for oral health care. The field of teledentistry has grown into a multibillion-dollar business that helps millions of Americans get better dental care.

Teledentistry has a lot of perks, some of which are very important. In this article, we will talk about some of the best things about teledentistry and how this innovative new tool can help you save time and money. To learn more, you can speak to an Aliso Viejo dentist today.

    What is teledentistry?

At its core, teledentistry is the combination of telecommunication technology and dental care. In real life, though, what does that mean? A basic definition of teledentistry is the practice of dentistry where dentists can talk to, assess, and sometimes even treat patients without being in the same room. Digital platforms, video conference tools, and specialized dentistry software make it possible for the doctor and the patient to talk to each other in real time.

    How does teledentistry work?

Take a moment to imagine that a patient is having pain in their gums. You can connect them right away with a doctor through a video call instead of making an in-person appointment, which could take days or even weeks. The patient can talk about their complaints, show the camera the area that hurts, and get feedback right away.

Sometimes, dentists use teledentistry platforms that have tools for people to take high-resolution pictures of their teeth. These pictures are then sent to the dentist so that they can look at them more closely.

There are some clear differences between teledentistry and regular dental appointments. The physical part is the most noticeable. For a normal appointment, the customer has to be in the dental office and sit in the dentist’s chair. Teledentistry, on the other hand, can be done from anywhere with internet access, such as at home, office, or even in a public place. This not only saves time and money on fuel but also makes going to the dentist less stressful for some people.

However, it is important to keep in mind that even though teledentistry is very convenient, it does not totally replace the need to see a dentist in person, particularly for treatments that need to be done by hand. Instead, it works with standard ways to make dental care more flexible and easy to get.

If you are interested in learning more, speak to your dentist right away!
